400 years ago, in 1617, Lancashire had its first royal visit for more than a century. James 1 travelled through the county returning from Scotland and was entertained at Hoghton Tower and Lathom House. To mark this anniversary, we have a special interest day on Royal Progresses of the Tudors and Stuarts. Queen Elizabeth I rightly takes centre stage, but Henry VIII and James I are also included. All monarchs lived a peripatetic life and we look at a court on the move and the houses that were visited. Our journey will include great houses like Burghley, Hatfield, Knole, Kirkby Hall and Lathom House as well as smaller ones like Deene Park, Hinchingbrooke and, of course Hoghton Tower.
The Speaker will be our President, Roger Mitchell.
